Workshop Steadicam Gold
Overview
The Steadicam Gold workshop, conducted and refined over 30 years, brings to the participant ample practical and theoretical experience of the professional applications, and additional mental tools necessary to face the challenges of each television or film set. The student will also work with many exercises and scene drawings to enrich his ability to add value to productions.
There will be at least one Steadicam Rig and one instructor / operator for each group of 4 participants. The minimum number of students will be 16 and the maximum 20.
The workshop is designed for operators with little or no experience, who will be prepared for a safe career start, as well as experienced operators who will be able to improve their techniques.
At the end of the workshop, a very difficult shot is designed as a final test. Each operator is filmed as they do the shot. Both the shot and the video of the operator are reviewed.

Workshop needs & Prerequisites
Workshop participants should be in good health and free of back or other physical problems.
Using a Steadicam properly does not hurt your back - it gently makes it stronger and it also improves posture.
There are several successful female operators who weigh less than 130 lbs, and operators who weight more than double that. Steadicam is for everyone!
Clothing should be layered, as we work both outside and inside and the weather can be quite warm or cold.
Workshop participants with special dietary needs or other special requests should notify us in advance.
*You will not be allowed to record the workshop. We encourage students to be really present, avoiding the constant use of cell phones.
**The course is immersive, so participants will spend every day in the hotel. The fee includes accommodation and all meals. Participants will be responsible for their travel expense to the venue and any extra nights they want to stay at the Resort.

Jerry Holway, Steadicam Operator, Director of Photography, Inventor and Head Instructor of Steadicam Workshops.
Learned how to operate a Steadicam in 1982 while was teaching filmmaking at Penn State. In 1991, developed the Garrett Brown invention – Skyman™, the first of several low-tech “flying Steadicam on a wire”.
Jerry is the head instructor of Steadicam workshops since 1990 and is the author of the Steadicam Workbook, The Steadicam EFP Manual and Videotape, The Steadicam Ultra manual, and The Dynamic Balance Primer.
Participated in many improvements to the Steadicam, including helping with the creation of the Buddycam and Slavecams. Invented an electronic circuit called the “Bubble Tamer”, also invented the inertial augmentation system called Antlers. Came up with the basic concept for the Steadicam Ultra and the Ultra’s integral tilt head.
Continues to develop and design new Steadicam accessories.

Chris Fawcett, Steadicam Operator and Cinematographer with 25 years of broadcast and film experience. He was trained on the streets of Belfast, graduating from AC to Camera Operator for BBC Newsnight.
In 1998, he became a film and TV documentary DP, shooting mountaineering footage on Aconcagua at 7,000 meters.
In 2003, a passion for camera movement led him to Steadicam®. He now specialises in the aesthetics of camera movement, filming and teaching world-wide. His feature film, Let Each One Go Where He May—a series of 10 ten-minute continuous Steadicam® takes, shot in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest—won Best Film at 5 international film festivals, attracting high praise for his cinematography. Chris is the author of Steadicam® Posture, and co-inventor of the Steadiseg, the 3rd generation Steadicam® Segway®.
He is also co-inventor of the radical new concept in ergonomic Steadicam Vest design

Dan Ikeda, graduated at USC, was Technical Sales Manager at Tiffen Steadicam for 8 years, coordinated and instructed workshops since 2008.
Besides trainings in Universities such as AFI and TV Stations like CNN and Globo TV in Brazil, also teaches in Japan, United States and Latin America.
He's in the business since started at IDX battery company in 2002. He was also part of Thales/Angenieux sales team.
Aline Ballestero, Camera and Steadicam Operator, graduated at UNESP, Brazil. Took cinematographer's course at USC and many workshops through her career. In the industry since the year 2001, she worked in TV stations as Camera Operator until 2004 when started freelancing only. She had a brief experience as AC and focus puller.
Also took the Steadicam Gold workshop with Garrett Brown, Jerry Holway, Chris Fawcett and since then has assisted and taught other Steadicam workshops in Brazil, Japan, Mexico and US between gigs. As well as working as a specialized simultaneous translator for English-Portuguese.

Sandro Galvão, Camera Operator specializing in movement, Graduated in Radio and Television by UNESP - Bauru (Sao Paulo State University), has been in the industry for 20 years.
